Selection Process: The Three Pillars

The BPSC selection cycle is rigorous, designed to test both the breadth of knowledge and the depth of analytical skills.

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective): A single paper of 150 marks. It is qualifying in nature, but the cut-off determines your entry into the Mains. Negative marking is applicable.
  2. Mains Examination (Descriptive): This stage consists of five papers:
    • General Hindi (Qualifying)
    • General Studies I (300 Marks)
    • General Studies II (300 Marks)
    • Essay (300 Marks)
    • Optional Subject (MCQ/Qualifying for general posts)
  3. Personal Interview: Candidates who clear the Mains are called for a 120-mark personality test to evaluate their suitability for administrative roles.

Application Fee & Aadhaar Requirement

The basic application fee is ₹100 for all categories. However, there is a specific rule regarding biometric verification:

  • Aadhaar Users: If you provide your Aadhaar number as ID proof, you only pay the standard fee.
  • Non-Aadhaar Users: If you use a different ID (PAN, DL, etc.), you must pay an additional biometric fee of ₹200.
