Coal India Limited (CIL), a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking, has officially launched its recruitment drive for Management Trainees (MT) for the 2026 cycle. Under Advertisement No. 03/2026, the world’s single largest coal producer is inviting applications from young and dynamic graduates to fill 660 vacancies across various engineering and non-engineering disciplines.
Unlike some previous years where GATE scores were a primary requirement, this 2026 recruitment cycle for these 660 posts is based strictly on a Computer-Based Test (CBT) only, with no interview stage. This provides a transparent and merit-based entry for aspirants looking to build a career in the energy sector.

Eligibility Criteria & Age Limit
1. Educational Qualification
- Engineering (Civil/Electrical/Mech/Systems/E&T/IE): Degree in the relevant branch of Engineering with minimum 60% marks. (55% for SC/ST/PwBD).
- Geology: M.Sc. / M. Tech. in Geology or Applied Geology with minimum 60% marks.
- Rajbhasha: MA in Hindi (60%) with Hindi and English as main subjects in Graduation.
- Company Secretary: Graduate with CS qualification (Associate/Fellow membership of ICSI).
2. Age Limit (As of April 30, 2026)
- General / EWS: 30 Years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 33 Years
- SC / ST: 35 Years
Selection Process: CBT Only
One of the most unique aspects of the CIL MT Recruitment 2026 is that selection is determined solely by the merit in the Computer-Based Test (CBT).
- Exam Structure: The test consists of two papers (Paper-I and Paper-II) of 100 marks each.
- Paper-I: General Knowledge, Reasoning, Numerical Ability, and General English.
- Paper-II: Professional Knowledge (Discipline-specific).
- Negative Marking: There is no negative marking, encouraging candidates to attempt all questions.
- Duration: 3 hours for both papers combined.
Salary and Grade Structure
Selected candidates are appointed as Management Trainees in E-1 Grade.
- Pay Scale: ₹60,000 – ₹1,80,000.
- Initial Basic Pay: ₹60,000 per month during the one-year training period.
- Confirmation: Upon successful completion of training, candidates are confirmed as Assistant Managers in the E-2 Grade.
