Coal India Limited (CIL), a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking, has officially launched its recruitment drive for Management Trainees (MT) for the 2026 cycle. This year, the recruitment process follows a dual-path system: while some technical disciplines are being recruited through a dedicated Computer-Based Test (CBT), the Mining discipline remains focused on GATE 2025/2026 scores.
With a total of 936 tentative vacancies (660 via CBT and 276 via GATE for Mining), this is the premier opportunity for engineering and management graduates to secure a prestigious “E-1” grade officer position in India’s energy backbone.

The recruitment covers a wide array of technical and non-technical fields. Most engineering roles require a B.E. / B.Tech / B.Sc (Engg.) with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD).

- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 33 Years
- SC / ST: 35 Years
- PwBD (General): 40 Years
- CIL Employees: No upper age bar.
Selection Process
For Mining Candidates:
Selection is based solely on the GATE Score. Shortlisted candidates (typically in a 1:3 ratio) will be called directly for Document Verification (DV) and Medical Examination. No separate interview is conducted.
For Other Disciplines:
Selection is determined by a Computer-Based Test (CBT).
- Paper I: General Knowledge, Reasoning, Numerical Ability, and General English (100 Marks).
- Paper II: Professional Knowledge / Discipline-specific (100 Marks).
- Note: There is no negative marking, and the duration is 3 hours for both papers combined.
Salary and Grade Structure
Selected candidates are appointed as Management Trainees in E-1 Grade.
- Pay Scale: ₹60,000 – ₹1,80,000.
- Initial Basic Pay: ₹60,000 per month during the training period.
- Total CTC: Approximately ₹15–18 Lakhs per annum (including DA, HRA, Perks, Medical, and Gratuity).
